German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced more than €1.3 billion in new support for Ukraine during a Kyiv visit marked by Russian drone attacks, including €1 billion in military aid and €350 million for energy-sector repairs. Merz said Germany would not be intimidated into withdrawing support and described Ukraine’s defense as integral to European security. Russian strikes damaged Kyiv’s Northern Bridge, injured two people and disrupted a hot-water system, while the leaders visited sites hit in earlier attacks. German executives signed 16 agreements with Ukrainian authorities and businesses worth roughly €6.5 billion, including arrangements with Diehl Defence on IRIS-T air-defense missiles, Hensoldt on radar equipment and Quantum Systems on jet-drone interceptors. This differs from an earlier account of the visit that cited 15 agreements exceeding €8.5 billion. Zelenskyy said Ukraine and Germany were nearing a broader defense-production agreement covering drones, missiles and related software, and said Ukraine was prepared to resume trilateral talks this month if Russia participated.
