Artificial intelligence investment is reshaping U.S. employment rather than simply eliminating jobs, creating more than 750,000 AI-linked roles since 2023 while increasing demand for data annotators, data-center workers, engineers and specialized banking talent. Employers cited AI in 120,136 announced job cuts through September, or about 21% of all cuts, but Gallup found workers using AI less than monthly faced three times the layoff risk of monthly users. Mark Cuban said the principal competitive risk is not AI itself but workers who use it more effectively. Hiring demand remains concentrated in technical roles: LinkedIn AI job postings rose 156% between 2024 and 2025, and Draup recorded a 1,721% increase in postings mentioning agent orchestration. National hiring remains subdued, with nonfarm payrolls rising 29,000 in September and unemployment at 4.2%.
