JPMorgan added five stocks to its October list of overweight-rated investment ideas, organized across growth, income, value and short strategies. The named additions include American Express, Liberty Energy and Thermo Fisher Scientific. The refresh follows a mixed September, when the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 4.3%, the S&P 500 slipped 0.5% and the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.9%. The Dow declined 3% in the third quarter, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq each advanced at least 2%. American Express was added as a value selection despite closing at $302.78 on Oct. 2, down 18.16% year to date. Liberty Energy, a growth pick, gained 52% over the past year, while Thermo Fisher rose more than 25% over the past three months and closed at $654.80 on Oct. 2. JPMorgan analysts linked the companies’ prospects to capital returns, data-center power demand, artificial intelligence adoption and U.S. biopharma reshoring. October has historically been a stronger month for U.S. stocks, with SPDR S&P 500 ETF total returns averaging 2.27% since 2010, according to Barchart data.
