Ripple plans to activate credit-related pilots in 2027 that would use XRP deposited into lending-protocol liquidity pools as collateral for loans supporting payment customers that need short-term financing before incoming funds arrive. Ripple President Monica Long discussed the plan at XRP Seoul on October 3, 2026, saying the company wants to connect payments, credit, the XRP Ledger and lending protocols. Unlike XRP’s traditional bridge-asset role, in which tokens are transferred and converted within seconds, collateralized XRP could remain locked until a loan is repaid, potentially increasing the amount used in longer-term financial applications. The initiative builds on RippleX product chief Jazzi Cooper’s description of institutional XRP collateral as a potential "killer use case." The XRPL Lending Protocol is being designed around Single Asset Vaults and lending markets, while Ripple, Clearpool and Cicada are developing an institutional lending market initially focused on RLUSD and institutional borrowers. Ripple has not disclosed pool sizes, lenders, launch details beyond 2027, interest rates or repayment currencies. As of October 4, XRP traded at $1.50, down approximately 50% over the previous year and 59% below its $3.65 all-time high.
