BT Group has acquired TalkTalk's consumer and wholesale operations out of administration, securing continued broadband and phone services for 2.5 million customers. The transaction follows BT's earlier £400 million agreement to acquire financially distressed TalkTalk and PlatformX Communications, which had faced a public-interest intervention and scrutiny from the Competition and Markets Authority. Ares Management, a TalkTalk shareholder and lender, had opposed BT's takeover, arguing that it could harm broadband competition and investment incentives. BT said TalkTalk customers do not need to act and that services are to continue normally, while regulators and rivals examine the consequences of the rescue.
