Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake urged the crypto industry to prepare for "bunker mode," a controlled migration of assets to fresh addresses whose public keys remain hidden behind a hash. He said artificial intelligence-driven mathematical advances could undermine ECDSA in a worst-case scenario within months rather than years, potentially before quantum computing's Q-Day, while emphasizing that ECDSA has not been broken and holders should not panic. Drake urged major custodians including Binance, Bitbank, Robinhood, Bitfinex and Tether to strengthen cold storage, and said smaller Bitcoin wallets have partial protection because attackers would likely target approximately 20,000 exposed addresses associated with Bitcoin's creator first. The Ethereum Foundation has formed a post-quantum team, while Drake said Ethereum should accelerate its transition to hash-based cryptography.
