The S&P 500 reached an all-time high Tuesday, its first record since August 13, and ended October 10 near that peak after gaining 0.59% to 7,811.51. U.S. stocks closed higher, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.83% to 51,654.95 and the Nasdaq Composite up 0.64% to 27,366.17. The Russell 2000 rose 0.5% to 2,806.98. Since the prior S&P 500 record, only four sectors have gained: technology rose 6.8%, energy 4.4%, communication services 1.2% and healthcare 0.6%.
