Elon Musk said Starlink must match India’s ultra-low data costs or find no market there, intensifying his dispute with Mukesh Ambani ahead of Reliance Jio parent Jio Platforms’ planned $106 billion valuation in India’s largest-ever IPO. Musk did not provide a price, while mobile data in India costs about 8 cents per gigabyte, among the world’s lowest. Jio’s satellite venture, like Starlink and one other venture, is awaiting final security clearance. Musk has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and Ambani of delaying Starlink’s market entry to favor Jio, allegations the government has denied. The dispute marks a shift from Musk’s previously warm public rapport with Modi. SpaceX has also said it plans to enter the U.S. mobile carrier market, while Musk has used low pricing in markets such as Kenya to challenge local telecom operators.
