A fire damaged part of Saudi Aramco's headquarters compound in Dhahran during a missile attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels, Bloomberg reported on Oct. 13. The blaze, which broke out a day earlier, was later extinguished, although the extent of the damage remained unknown and it was unclear whether a missile struck the compound directly or interception debris caused the fire. Six sources had earlier reported loud booms near the evacuated headquarters, with one describing smoke emerging from the site. Saudi Arabia's Saudi-led military coalition said missiles were fired toward several cities, including Riyadh and Dhahran, while debris from interceptions fell in residential areas. Aramco and Saudi Arabia's Energy Ministry did not issue official statements on the fire. The latest incident adds to attacks on Saudi oil infrastructure, including a refinery in Jazan, a crude export port on the Red Sea and the East-West pipeline. The repeated assaults have killed at least 18 people and injured hundreds, increasing uncertainty around Middle East crude supply chains.
