OpenAI is in early discussions to acquire New York-based Trail of Bits, a cybersecurity firm that identifies and fixes vulnerabilities in open-source software, people familiar with the matter said. The potential deal’s value is undisclosed. Trail of Bits has conducted security audits for crypto projects including Uniswap, Aave and Worldcoin. The companies collaborated in June to launch Patch the Planet, an open-source software security initiative. OpenAI has sometimes used stock payments worth the low hundreds of millions of dollars to acquire small startups, although it has also paid less. The talks remain ongoing and may not result in a transaction.
