Sachin Katti will step down from leading OpenAI's infrastructure unit over the coming weeks and remain an adviser after November 15, while Uday Ruddarraju takes charge of the company's compute and infrastructure business. Ruddarraju joined OpenAI last year as head of compute and infrastructure and became CTO, Compute, in July after previously leading infrastructure and engineering at xAI. Katti managed major data-center developments, including an 8-gigawatt Ohio project with SB Energy and Nvidia and an OpenAI-led Georgia facility. Richard Ho, who leads OpenAI's chip efforts, will oversee GPT-Infra after Katti's departure. The transition comes as OpenAI expands the capacity needed for advanced AI models; Sam Altman has said the required infrastructure could require trillions of dollars in spending.
