The Federal Reserve released its October-November Treasury bill purchase schedule, including $14.6 billion of short-term Treasuries to reinvest principal from maturing securities. The purchases do not add new cash to financial markets, extending for a third consecutive month the pause in reserve management purchases that would supply fresh liquidity. The existing schedule identified the reinvestment as proceeds from mortgage-backed securities, or MBS. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York announced the approach on October 14. Market participants expect new Treasury purchases to resume in mid-November, which would add liquidity to the banking system.
