LayerZero Labs has introduced Aerie, a research system that aggregated 32,768 Falcon-512 post-quantum signatures in 0.65 seconds using 16 worker threads on an Apple M4 Max laptop without GPU acceleration. The project, which builds on the Akita cryptographic proof system, aims to help proof-of-stake blockchains compress large validator-signature batches as they prepare for cryptography resistant to quantum attacks. A standard Aerie aggregate for that workload measured 1,346 KiB, including retained salts and headers, while the proof itself was about 66 KiB. The researchers reported that Aerie generated proofs faster than Ethereum's leanVM in their cited tests, although leanVM verified proofs faster. NIST lists Falcon for ongoing standardization, distinct from its finalized ML-DSA and SLH-DSA signature standards. Ethereum's protocol developers are targeting quantum resistance across execution, consensus and data by December 2029, while LayerZero says ML-DSA aggregation is working in Aerie but has not released performance data.
