Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has opened discussions with New York City Comptroller Mark Levine after Levine urged the company to delay a potential IPO until it strengthens AI safety and governance safeguards. Levine’s Oct. 14 letter cited roughly 80 pages of draft-prospectus disclosures on potentially catastrophic AI risks and a proposed governance structure that could limit shareholder accountability. New York City’s public pension funds oversee more than $325 billion, and some assets held through index funds could gain Anthropic exposure after it goes public. Investors and prospective investors have discussed a valuation of about $1.5 trillion, below earlier expectations of $2 trillion, as third-quarter revenue reportedly rose 45% sequentially to $16.8 billion and adjusted profitability continued. Anthropic has not formally announced an IPO date; sources previously cited mid-November, while slower growth, AI-stock weakness, safety concerns and valuation pressure could affect timing and pricing. Levine has also contacted OpenAI, the London Stock Exchange and other institutional investors about safety concerns.
