Artificial intelligence could lift US gross domestic product to $44.4 trillion by 2030 under Anthropic's most aggressive adoption scenario, co-founder Jack Clark said at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok. The company's model projects $34.1 trillion under modest AI adoption and $36.3 trillion in a substantial scenario, all measured in constant 2025 dollars. Clark said the most optimistic outcome would require AI-driven scientific advances, new products and industries rather than simply replacing workers with software. He also warned that automation's gains may not be evenly shared and called for stronger international cooperation and enforceable safeguards. The projections come as investors question whether heavy spending on GPUs, data centers and power infrastructure will generate adequate returns, following recent outflows from technology funds and a sharp selloff in US semiconductor stocks. Anthropic is separately preparing for a potential initial public offering, while investor valuations have reportedly shifted from $2 trillion to about $1.5 trillion.
