Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade is scheduled to activate on the Hoodi testnet on October 26, 2026, at 17:42:48 UTC, following its October 6 launch on Sepolia. The upgrade will raise Hoodi’s gas limit from 60 million to 200 million, allowing each block to accommodate more computational work, provided validators and nodes can process the additional load. Glamsterdam includes enshrined proposer-builder separation under EIP-7732, block-level access lists under EIP-7928 and revised gas accounting under EIP-8037. The changes are intended to improve block construction, parallel processing and the measurement of execution and state-growth costs. Ethereum developers have not set a mainnet activation date, and the Foundation has said ETH holders do not need to take action. ETH traded around $2,395 on October 18, down 0.9% in 24 hours and 3.4% over the week, while Solana traded near $103 after falling 5.2% over the week ahead of its Alpenglow upgrade. Larger testnet blocks could narrow Ethereum’s capacity gap with Solana, but their effect on ETH will depend on mainnet deployment, user demand and whether added capacity generates sufficient activity and fees.
