BitTorrent has completed its first BTT buyback-and-burn cycle, sending 21,621,611,570,729.6 tokens worth approximately $7,600,907 to a burn address on October 16. The tokens were repurchased using 100% of revenue from decentralized services generated in Q3 2026, under a program announced July 6 and conducted each calendar quarter. A transaction hash provides on-chain verification, while a new dashboard is intended to publish burn data around the middle of the first month of each subsequent quarter. BitTorrent also released a new whitepaper that combines its BitTorrent Mainnet for peer-to-peer content distribution, BTTInferGrid for decentralized compute, and BTTC for cross-chain interoperability, Layer 2 scaling and settlement. BTT is positioned as the common economic instrument for payments, gas fees, node incentives, staking and governance. BitTorrent said the initiatives move BTT beyond a utility and governance token toward a revenue-backed deflationary asset, while refining governance and expanding the network toward Web3 and AI infrastructure. BTT had gained approximately 30.3% over the three months ended October 15, according to the announcement.
