Nscale is in talks to supply Anthropic with AI computing capacity in a potential deal worth about $45 billion for a second building at its Monarch data center campus in West Virginia. The facility would provide 460 megawatts using Nvidia’s Vera Rubin AI chips. Anthropic struck a separate agreement in August to spend $45 billion renting computing power from Nscale’s West Virginia campus; it also holds a right of first refusal on the expected third Monarch building. Discussions remain ongoing, and details could change. The talks come as investors scrutinize debt-heavy AI infrastructure expansion. Bloomberg, which first reported the discussions, also said some investors had urged Anthropic to lower its IPO valuation target after setbacks for AI companies. Last week, shares of Nscale rival CoreWeave slumped amid concerns over its $50 billion debt load, contributing to a global selloff in AI stocks. Microsoft recently withdrew from a deal to anchor a flagship Nscale data center after power-connection delays pushed the expected supply date into the 2030s. Nscale says its contracted value grew from $100 million to more than $103 billion in two-and-a-half years; its prospectus identifies Microsoft and Anthropic as expected major customers.
