Hyundai Motor Group will establish two special-purpose companies to build and operate an artificial intelligence data center in Saemangeum, Gunsan, South Korea. Five affiliates—Hyundai Motor, Kia, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Hyundai AutoEver—have approved investments in the project. Hyundai AutoEver will invest 114.608 billion won for 1,146,080 shares, giving it a 26% stake after completion; payments are scheduled in six tranches from this year through 2031. One company will develop the hyperscale facility and its infrastructure, while the other will acquire high-performance graphics processing units and provide computing services. Construction is scheduled to start in March 2027, with operations beginning in early 2030. The center will support round-the-clock training and testing of autonomous-driving software, virtual training for robots and vehicle research. The project forms part of Hyundai's roughly 9 trillion-won AI Valley plan, with the new report valuing that program at $6.3 billion, compared with an earlier record of $6.7 billion. The group has also opened an on-site office and is discussing technical cooperation and financing with Korea Development Bank and other lenders.
