OKX founder and CEO Star said recent security incidents involving Bybit, Bitget and Binance should prompt every crypto industry leader to treat security as a shared responsibility rather than a competitive advantage. He said major exchanges have improved private-key protection over the past decade, but there is not yet conclusive evidence that Binance’s hot-wallet private keys were exposed. Access controls and wallet-management systems may instead represent the larger concern. Star said OKX has built multilayer defenses while acknowledging that no system is completely secure. He called for industry CEOs to develop stronger common security standards and coordinated response mechanisms, including real-time processing for verified exchange transfers and settlements, while applying additional checks and security delays to large withdrawals involving unknown or unverified addresses and transactions granting smart-contract permissions.
