Alliant Energy lifted its capital spending forecast for 2027 through 2030 by 19% to $15.9 billion as data-center demand accelerates investment in generation and grid infrastructure across the Midwest. Its regulated utilities, Interstate Power and Light (IPL) and Wisconsin Power and Light (WPL), have secured 3.4 gigawatts of contracted data-center demand, while peak electricity demand across Alliant's service territories is expected to increase approximately 60% by 2031. The plan allocates about $6.8 billion to thermal generation and liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure and $5.1 billion to renewable energy and battery storage projects. Capital spending is projected at $4.3 billion in 2027 and approximately $4.7 billion in 2028 before moderating later in the decade. The announcement accompanied third-quarter 2026 net income of $398 million, up 42% from $281 million a year earlier, with diluted earnings per share rising to $1.52 from $1.09 and revenue increasing 6% to $1.29 billion. Alliant narrowed its 2026 ongoing earnings guidance to $3.41-$3.46 per share and forecast 2027 ongoing earnings of $3.63-$3.73 per share. It also set a 2027 annual dividend target of $2.25 per share, subject to quarterly board approvals, and said it would extend IPL's Iowa retail electric base rate stability plan through 2030.
