Hyundai Steel, South Korea’s second-largest steelmaker, reported third-quarter net profit of 84 billion won ($62.8 million), nearly five times the 17.8 billion won recorded a year earlier, supported by higher selling prices and stronger sales of value-added products including automotive steel. Operating profit fell 6.5% year over year to 87.1 billion won, while sales rose 2.8% to 5.89 trillion won. Separately, Hanmi Semiconductor (042700) reported third-quarter operating profit of 90.8 billion won and revenue of 181 billion won, up 8.9% year over year, with profitability exceeding market expectations. Hyundai Steel expects higher product prices and stabilizing raw-material costs to improve fourth-quarter profitability and is developing a Louisiana mill for automotive steel production.
