South Korea collected 385 trillion won, or about $287.9 billion, in national taxes from January through September 2026, up 95.4 trillion won, or 33%, from a year earlier, the Ministry of Finance and Economy said on Oct. 30. September collections totaled 55.2 trillion won, an increase of 26.4 trillion won, driven mainly by higher corporate tax receipts as semiconductor companies reported improved earnings. Corporate tax revenue for the first nine months rose 68.3% to 127.8 trillion won, while September corporate tax revenue alone increased 23.6 trillion won to 36.2 trillion won. Income tax revenue rose 1.2 trillion won to 9.7 trillion won, supported by more regular workers and increased housing transactions that also lifted capital gains tax receipts. Inheritance and gift tax revenue rose 200 billion won, partly as housing gift transactions reached 7,000 in June, up 31.2% from 5,300 a year earlier. Securities transaction tax revenue climbed 311.1% to 9.9 trillion won as stock-market trading volumes increased, although the ministry cautioned that volatile trading activity makes future revenue trends difficult to predict. Value-added tax, customs duties and the special tax for rural areas also increased during the nine-month period.
