Land Minister Hong Ji-sun said the government could announce additional housing sites in Seoul before year-end if the Seoul Metropolitan Government cooperates, while urging private redevelopment projects to move from approvals to construction. During a visit to Seoul’s Sanggye 2 redevelopment site, Hong said the project could qualify for acquisition-tax relief if it breaks ground quickly under the Aug. 13 fast-track housing supply package. The project covers about 100,000 square meters and is planned to deliver 2,200 units, including 426 rental homes. The government is supporting construction starts for 72,000 homes in the greater Seoul area this year through private redevelopment. Hong also said the ministry would prioritize short-term issues in discussions with Seoul and maintained that slowing gains and declines in Seoul’s three Gangnam-area districts support his view that prices could eventually fall.
