Special counsel Min Joong-ki's team has appealed the acquittal of Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon in a political funds case tied to the 2021 mayoral by-election. The case concerns 33 million won ($24,700) in payments allegedly made by a political supporter for 10 opinion polls that Oh reportedly received from self-proclaimed power broker Myung Tae-kyun. A lower court found Oh partially guilty and imposed a 10 million-won fine, which would have cost him his mayoralty if finalized. The appellate court later reversed that conviction, saying Myung's testimony—the only direct evidence—could not be fully trusted. The special counsel team filed its appeal with the Seoul High Court on Friday, arguing that the appellate ruling unlawfully discounted the testimony and conflicted with common sense.
