Zcash Community Grants has proposed redirecting about 98,000 ZEC, valued at roughly $124 million, toward future mining rewards through the Network Sustainability Mechanism. The plan would transfer 36,200 ZEC from its approximately 91,500-ZEC treasury and forgo about 62,000 ZEC in future allocations, while tapering remaining funding through the 2032 halving. ZCG said the proposal is preliminary and will be presented to the community. Helius co-founder and CEO Mert Mumtaz has criticized the committee's accountability and decision-making structure, while Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss has also questioned its accountability. The debate follows Sean Bowe's proposal to end ZCG's automatic 8% share of newly issued ZEC while leaving its existing treasury untouched. Separately, Winklevoss Asset has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed Nasdaq-listed, physically backed Zcash ETF.
