A Binance hacker moved 18,270.2 stolen BTC from a hot wallet into 19 addresses late Thursday and left the funds untouched. The bitcoin, worth about $1.4 billion at early Friday prices, was divided into 17 wallets holding exactly 1,000 BTC each, plus wallets containing 832.5 BTC and 437.7 BTC. A CoinDesk blockchain trace found no outgoing transactions from the addresses as of 04:23 UTC Friday, apart from small spam deposits from outsiders, while Bitcoin.com News reported that no additional transfers had been identified at the latest check. TRM Labs attributed the theft with high confidence to TraderTraitor, a North Korean hacking unit. Binance said its initial investigation pointed to a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer and unauthorized withdrawals through a service container, with no evidence that a wallet private key was leaked.
