Circle plans to begin winding down its legacy Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol, or CCTP V1, on Oct. 31, 2026, by progressively reducing burn limits before pausing the related contracts on Dec. 1. After the pause, applications, wallets and bridge services that still use V1 will no longer be able to transfer USDC between blockchains. CCTP moves USDC by burning tokens on a source blockchain and minting them on a destination blockchain. Circle says it will retain sufficient minting capacity for verified pending transfers to complete before the shutdown, although it has not disclosed the intermediate limit levels or adjustment dates. CCTP V2 uses separate contracts and APIs, is not backward compatible with V1, and requires integrations to update their contract calls and APIs. Noble will not connect to CCTP V2. Circle plans to pause the USDC contract and remaining cross-chain routes on Noble on Jan. 12, 2027; it will take a snapshot of remaining balances that day and begin manual redemptions on Jan. 13. Applicants must meet compliance and security requirements and hold the assets in a self-custodied wallet. Circle announced the move away from V1 on Nov. 14, 2025, and published the phase-out timetable on Aug. 27, 2026.
