XRP Ledger developers have proposed four protocol fixes under fixCleanup3_5_0 to prevent restricted tokens from reaching accounts without issuer approval. The package would require authorization for both underlying assets before an account receives an automated market maker liquidity token, close an exemption involving trust lines with existing nonzero balances, and extend approval checks across payments and other transactions. Developers have also examined routes involving NFT trades, addressed by an August 2025 fix, and previously explored permissioned liquidity pools for verified institutional counterparties. The XRP Ledger Foundation said the work addresses protocol guarantees rather than a reported user impact, with no known balances created by outsiders exploiting the remaining exceptions; existing unapproved balances came from issuers or accounts they had approved. The changes are relevant to regulated stablecoins and tokenized securities as institutions expand XRP Ledger use, including BNY’s XRP and RLUSD custody capabilities and Ripple’s work involving stablecoin settlement, tokenized securities and institutional financing. The proposal was updated on GitHub on October 27 but has not been merged or activated. After implementation and review, it would require support from more than 80% of trusted validators for two consecutive weeks; the November 4 upgrade window concerns fixCleanup3_4_0, not this package.
