POSCO Future M has signed a memorandum of understanding with LG Energy Solution to supply a combined 720,000 tons of cathode and anode materials over seven years starting in 2027. The partnership will include lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode materials and synthetic graphite anode materials for the first time, alongside joint development of next-generation products such as ultra high-nickel cathodes, sodium-ion batteries and silicon anode materials. The companies plan to finalize product-diversification and supply-roadmap details before signing a formal contract this year. Their cooperation also covers increasing the use of metals recovered from spent batteries in POSCO Future M's nickel-cobalt-manganese cathode materials to improve cost competitiveness. POSCO Future M said broader product coverage would strengthen competitiveness amid an unstable global trade environment, while LFP demand is rising alongside artificial-intelligence data-center expansion and higher electric-vehicle sales.
