T-Mobile US Inc. Chief Executive Srini Gopalan again rejected a mobile virtual network operator arrangement with SpaceX, narrowing the satellite company’s potential routes into the U.S. wireless market. Speaking during T-Mobile’s Oct. 28 third-quarter earnings call, Gopalan said satellite connectivity is complementary to traditional wireless service but does not justify a broader network relationship. T-Mobile could consider a resale arrangement or work with SpaceX as a customer or supplier, he said, but not an MVNO deal for consumer service, physical infrastructure or edge artificial intelligence. The decision comes as SpaceX explores building its own nationwide network after acquiring low-band spectrum and discussing access to at least 80,000 cell sites. TD Cowen estimates such a buildout would cost more than $80 billion and take years, putting the company on a long-term path toward competing with Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc.
