Cathay Pacific Airways said a data security breach at Spanish software provider Amadeus affected about 53,000 bookings, without disrupting the airline’s systems or operations. The October 28 incident exposed booking references, passenger names and flight details in most cases, while additional personal information was compromised in a smaller number of cases. Cathay said the affected bookings dated from August 2023 to September and that there was no evidence financial or payment information had been accessed. Amadeus said it had identified a vulnerability in a travel booking display environment, contained the incident and added monitoring and detection measures. Investigations continue, with no indication that the vulnerability was used for ransomware. Japan Airlines said earlier this week that a similar breach affected 92,000 customers, while South Korea’s Asiana Airlines also reported compromised customer data.
