Chainalysis said on October 31 that an external hacker used artificial intelligence agents to gain unauthorized access to its internal systems and work tools, exposing and leaking some customer information. An earlier account said the company disclosed the incident on October 30, with WuBlockchain reporting it on October 31. The exposed data included customer user IDs, full names, email addresses and organizational roles. Chainalysis said it found no signs of access to investigation records, transaction lookup results, clear-text passwords, multi-factor authentication data or user session tokens. The company notified affected customers, hired outside cybersecurity experts, launched an investigation into the incident's scope and began patching vulnerabilities and strengthening its defenses. The exposed identity and contact metadata could support targeted phishing or social-engineering attempts against compliance, investigations and administrative personnel, and could reveal which organizations use blockchain-surveillance tools. The incident was unrelated to the recent cryptocurrency theft involving Binance. The number of affected accounts, the entry method, the breach timeline and any access to government case material remain unclear.
