MetaMask added Stellar as a default network on Oct. 29 across its Mobile and Extension products, allowing users to manage Stellar assets through existing multichain accounts. New or unfunded Stellar accounts need at least 1 XLM, while ordinary accounts must maintain 1 XLM plus 0.5 XLM per ordinary trustline (a network authorization for holding a token). Users receiving USDC must fund the account and manually activate the USDC trustline; simply adding the token to the visible list is insufficient. MetaMask says a Stellar token swap can create a trustline automatically when both assets are already on Stellar, but cross-chain swaps into non-XLM assets require manual activation before bridging. The wallet warns that bridged funds can be lost if the trustline is missing on arrival, whereas an ordinary Stellar transfer to an unprepared recipient fails.
