Salesforce has agreed to acquire Rune Technologies, a defense AI startup whose software helps the U.S. military forecast supply needs and manage logistics in the field, for $375 million in cash and stock, Resilience Media reported. The transaction would expand Missionforce, Salesforce’s business unit serving national-security and defense agencies, beyond back-office administrative planning by incorporating frontline logistics data. Salesforce said Missionforce’s business grew 80% year over year after launching last year, supported in part by a new 10-year, $5.6 billion contract with the U.S. Army. The company has also said the U.S. Army and Marine Corps use Rune’s technology, which can operate with limited or no network connectivity, and that all six U.S. military branches are customers of its defense business. Salesforce did not disclose terms in its official materials, while Resilience Media reported the $375 million valuation. The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal 2027 year. Founded in 2024, Rune has raised $30 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Point72 Ventures and IQT, a CIA-backed nonprofit venture firm formerly known as In-Q-Tel. PitchBook valued the startup at about $127 million in a Series A led by Human Capital last year. The deal adds to Salesforce’s acquisition activity, including its agreement to buy Fin, formerly Intercom, for $3.6 billion, its $1.2 billion purchase of Qualified, and an agreement to buy Listen Labs after the startup withdrew from a $125 million Series C term sheet at a $1.5 billion valuation. Salesforce has also pursued transactions involving Braze, Contentful and Informatica. Salesforce did not respond to a request for comment.
