Suspected North Korea-linked attacks accounted for about 89% of global cryptocurrency hacking losses this year, up from 15% in 2021, according to Chainalysis. The average loss per suspected North Korean hack rose to $185.65 million from $50.65 million over the same period. Chainalysis said the recent Binance breach, which Binance reported as causing $6.3 billion in damage, was likely tied to the North Korea-linked cybercrime group TraderTraitor. The firm cited evidence that funds stolen from Binance were mixed on-chain with assets taken from Bitget last month and said automated programs may have been used to complicate the money trail. Global crypto hacking losses totaled $22.34 billion from 2021 through Oct. 29 of this year.
