Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski urged a rapid Black Sea ceasefire to enable safe grain shipments from Ukraine and Russia, saying the Global South needs the supplies. Speaking at a two-day Group of 20 (G20) meeting in Atlanta, he said Ukraine must participate in any effort to end Russia’s invasion, now in its fifth year, and that Europe should be involved. Sikorski also called for a fair end to the war before Russia resumes energy sales to Europe, formerly its most lucrative market. The United States has proposed making Poland a full G20 member, a move Sikorski welcomed after discussing it with several member countries. Western officials say acceptance could take years because of Russia’s opposition and the group’s consensus requirement. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called Poland’s invitation counterproductive, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Poland deserved full membership. Sikorski also said Britain had invited Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to the 2027 G20 leaders summit in Manchester.
