A 19-year-old was arrested by the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency’s cyber investigation unit for allegedly using macro software to buy more than 50 professional baseball postseason tickets in 12 transactions on the official ticketing site on Oct. 15 and 16. The teenager allegedly resold the tickets through a secondhand trading platform at three to six times their face value, generating about 6 million won from nine transactions. The case involves alleged violations of the National Sports Promotion Act and obstruction of business. The investigation began at the request of the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, and police plan to notify the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism so follow-up measures, including fines, can be considered. Police said the revised law, effective Aug. 28, also punishes habitual or commercial ticket resales above the purchase price without the seller’s consent, even when macro software is not used.
