US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet the foreign ministers of Australia, India and Japan on Saturday, their third gathering this year, as preparations advance for a Quad leaders’ summit in Manila on November 15-18. The summit, held during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations conference, would be the first since 2024 and the first for US President Donald Trump. The formal leaders’ meetings began in 2021 under President Joe Biden. Trump canceled a planned late-2025 visit to India for a Quad summit amid trade frictions and tariff disputes with New Delhi. Rubio is also concluding a two-day Group of 20 meeting in Atlanta, where disagreements over Ukraine and the Middle East led organizers to drop a traditional family photograph. He said cooperation remains necessary despite diverging interests and hopes the ministers can prepare for a successful G20 leaders’ summit on December 14-15 at Trump’s Doral golf resort.
