HD Hyundai Robotics, the robotics solutions unit of South Korean shipbuilding conglomerate HD Hyundai, is working with Palantir Technologies to apply artificial intelligence, simulation and engineers’ expertise to industrial robot programming. AI agents analyze existing robot programs and suggest improvements, which engineers refine using practical experience. HD Hyundai Robotics said the approach reduced average task completion time to 7.9 days from 21.5 days after the agents were introduced in August, while the companies aim to cut programming costs by more than half. Chief Technology Officer and Vice President Ahn Sung-hwan outlined the collaboration and the company’s physical AI strategy at Palantir’s Sovereignty Bootcamp in New York. HD Hyundai Robotics also plans to train field engineers as on-site solution experts, giving them responsibility for defining factory-floor problems and implementing AI-based solutions. The companies plan regular senior-executive steering committee meetings to prioritize projects and identify applications with measurable results. Palantir said it would help integrate HD Hyundai Robotics’ robots with its Artificial Intelligence Platform and support new business opportunities.
