Taihan Cable & Solution (001440.KS) renamed its subsea cable-laying vessel Skandi Connector as the Taihan Connector on Nov. 2 as it expands its global subsea installation business. Acquired from Norwegian offshore construction company DOF in May, the roughly 11,000-ton vessel can carry up to 7,000 tons of cable and is currently conducting burial work at the Yeonggwang Nakwol Offshore Wind Power Project. The multipurpose ship can install internal and external offshore-wind networks, long-distance grid connections and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea cables. It has participated in 27 projects and installed about 1,300 kilometers of cable, including work in Europe. Taihan Cable & Solution operates the Palos and Taihan Connector as South Korea's only cable-laying vessel fleet for offshore wind power, supporting turnkey contracts spanning subsea-cable design, production, transport and installation. The company said the renamed vessel is intended to reinforce its brand identity and construction capabilities as it pursues global submarine-cable projects.
