Woori Investment & Securities is expanding its investment banking and structured finance business after winning sole mandates for hybrid bond securitization deals totaling ₩270 billion ($185 million) for EcoPro and Osstem Implant. The brokerage completed the ₩150 billion EcoPro transaction in September and recently secured the sole mandate for a ₩120 billion Osstem Implant deal, which is expected to close this month. Hybrid bond securitization packages hybrid securities issued by a company into investment products to raise funds. The firm has built experience in corporate and acquisition finance and has won major mandates since strengthening its capital base through a share issue in May. Its recent work includes ₩600 billion in acquisition financing for Ulsan GPS and SK Multi Utility, ₩280 billion across two rounds of funding for SK Eternix’s business restructuring, and ₩120 billion in corporate financing for EcoPro’s Indonesian subsidiary. Since launching full-scale brokerage operations in March last year, Woori Investment & Securities has used investment banking as an early growth engine and said it aims to provide tailored financial solutions to strategic industries including artificial intelligence and secondary batteries, as well as innovative companies.
