Elon Musk said Sunday that the cost of operating xAI’s Grok Bot had become unsustainably high relative to the revenue it generates, underscoring the financial pressure of serving a growing AI product. He made the comment on X after a user asked whether the service’s weekly usage allowance could be reset, saying many subscribers had exhausted their quotas faster than usual. Musk provided no operating-cost or revenue figures and did not say whether usage limits would change. Launched in early beta in August, Grok Bot is an AI agent that can perform multi-step tasks across apps and online services through its own virtual computer, including continuing work in the background. The service is offered through paid SuperGrok and Cursor plans with separate usage allocations. Earlier reports also said Grok had added UnionPay and Alipay payments, while users reported half-price first-month subscriptions.
