Samsung Electronics remained the world’s largest smartphone maker in the third quarter, shipping 57.8 million devices for a 22.7% market share despite a 20% annual contraction in global shipments to 254.7 million units, the lowest third-quarter volume since 2013, according to Omdia. Samsung’s shipments declined 5%, supported by its Galaxy A lineup and the Galaxy Z8 foldable series, which launched in August and sold 8% more units than the preceding Galaxy Z7 series during its first two weeks, aided by trade-in offers and upgrade programs. Apple ranked second with 56.5 million shipments and a 22.2% share, while Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo shipped 30.7 million, 23.4 million and 19.3 million units, respectively. Rising memory prices, weak consumer sentiment and cautious distributor inventories pressured the market, with Omdia forecasting a 12% decline for the full year and analysts expecting weakness to persist through 2027.
