Taiwan’s TAIEX fell 221 points, or 0.5%, to 44,991 in Monday morning trading on Nov. 2, extending declines from the previous two sessions and reaching its lowest level since Aug. 24. The drop followed a broad U.S. technology selloff after disappointing earnings from major American tech companies revived concerns about how quickly AI investments can generate returns. Taiwan’s currency market also weakened. Electronic technology and financial shares led the decline, while weaker Chinese manufacturing data added pressure. Electronic technology stocks fell 1.2%, with TSMC down 1.7%, Delta Electronics down 1.9%, Nanya Technology down 1.3% and United Microelectronics down 2.2%. Lower oil prices limited the market’s losses as inflation concerns moderated.
