Kraken has restricted accounts linked to a suspected cryptocurrency theft now estimated at more than $133 million, after investigators identified withdrawals through Kraken, Crypto.com and OKX. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT initially estimated losses at more than $106 million from an unidentified European entity on Nov. 1, then identified about $27 million in additional withdrawals. Bitquery said approximately $63 million in stablecoins was exchanged for 27,553 ETH over about four hours, compared with an earlier estimate of $62.98 million. The stolen USDC and USDT were routed through instant exchanges including WellWallet and Kyrrex, converted into Monero through Wagyu and moved across blockchains using bridges. Tether froze some associated USDT, while Circle retained the ability to freeze a smaller amount of USDC. Kraken denied any breach or customer-account takeover and said customer funds were unaffected. Crypto.com blocked associated movements and OKX reviewed the allegations. The victim and attacker remain unidentified, while ZachXBT said the target may have been a major Western European financial institution and expressed high confidence the attacker was not Lazarus Group.
