AbbVie has expanded its Oxford research and development facility as part of an investment exceeding £120 million ($161 million). The 12,000-square-foot site, known as AbbVie Oxford, will broaden research in immunology, neuroscience and oncology, building on capabilities gained through the 2022 acquisition of Oxford-based biotechnology company DJS Antibodies. The investment will support efforts to identify disease targets and combination therapies in areas with significant unmet medical need. AbbVie works annually with more than 100 UK universities and research organisations and is expanding academic collaborations, including with the University of Oxford. One collaboration is examining how patients with certain inflammatory diseases respond to treatments throughout their illness to help guide future drug development. AbbVie employs more than 1,100 people across its UK operations in Oxford, Maidenhead and Marlow. The investment follows an agreement finalized a few months earlier by the United States and Britain to increase UK medicine prices in line with President Donald Trump’s new US pricing policies.
