Kalshi projected Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, a Democrat, to defeat Republican Congressman John James in the 2026 governor’s race, with traders pricing her chances at 99%, up from 97% when polls closed. The projection would keep the governorship in Democratic hands for a third consecutive term after term-limited Governor Gretchen Whitmer leaves office, but it did not constitute an official call or resolve the market. Benson traded above 90% from late October, reaching 91% on Oct. 26 and 93% on Oct. 29 as polling showed her leading by about 8 percentage points. The RealClearPolitics average showed Benson ahead 51.3% to 43.7%. James had been priced at a 95% favorite to win the Republican primary on Aug. 3, while former Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan withdrew his independent bid in May 2026.
