Oracle canceled a multibillion-dollar chip leasing contract with Tencent after pressure from the Trump administration, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. U.S. officials approached Oracle with concerns about the deal, while top officials in Guangdong, where Tencent is based, visited the company and asked it to support domestic Chinese chips. Reuters could not immediately verify the report, and Oracle, Tencent and the White House did not respond to requests for comment. The Financial Times reported last month that Tencent had agreed to its largest overseas lease, estimated at $7 billion, for access to about 100,000 advanced AI chips unavailable in China because of curbs from Washington and Beijing. The agreement called for a five-year lease across multiple Oracle data centers in Southeast Asia.
