Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon urged President Lee Jae Myung to accelerate both private- and public-led redevelopment, arguing that private businesses provided approximately 90% of Seoul’s housing supply over the past three years. Oh made the appeal in a Facebook post on the 4th after Lee visited a public redevelopment site in Jangwi-dong, Seongbuk-gu, where the president said public-sector projects can move faster and reduce corruption risks. Oh criticized what he called an outdated division between private development as speculation and public development as supply, and urged Lee to visit Changsin-dong in Jongno-gu to hear residents of stalled redevelopment districts. He said Changsin districts 9 and 10 secured more than 75% resident consent, but the designation process was delayed by the Jongno District Office, which later asked residents to collect consent forms again. The dispute follows broader delays in Seoul-area redevelopment, including canceled Changsin projects, about 87 billion won in urban-regeneration spending, prolonged disputes in Jangwi districts 10 and 14, and limited construction progress across the greater Seoul area.
